Maria Solivellas runs the kitchen at Ca Na Toneta in Caimari, alongside her sister Teresa. Born in Palma in 1970, she worked in theatre and music production, first with the La Cubana theatre group in Barcelona and then in Madrid, until she read the September 11, 2001 attacks as a sign to stay in Mallorca rather than take a job in New York, and took over her family's restaurant instead. She has no formal culinary training, saying what she knows came from books of traditional Mallorcan recipes and from watching her mother cook. At Ca Na Toneta, she builds the menu around her own garden and local seasonal produce, and has become known for recovering forgotten native Mallorcan ingredients; the restaurant holds a Michelin Green Star and 1 Repsol Sol. She has since opened Coca Toneta, a Mallorcan-coca project at Palma's Sant Francesc Hotel Singular, and Celler Tonet, in a restored 17th-century wine cellar in Inca.
